Elizabeth H. Madden
Biography
Elizabeth Madden was motivated to pursue a higher degree
in geophysics following several years of work in the field
of disaster relief and hazard mitigation. She received her
PhD from Stanford University in 2013, where she studied
the effects of complex fault geometry on earthquake
mechanics with a focus on the 1992 Landers, California
earthquake. During postdoctoral research at the University
of Massachusetts-Amherst, she developed the fault
propagation code, GROW, based on energy minimization and
linear elastic fracture mechanics. She is currently a
postdoctoral fellow with the ASCETE Project at LMU Munich,
Germany, studying the effects of subduction zone geology
and geometry on megathrust earthquake dynamics, tsunami
generation and hazard.
