Thomas Ulrich
Biography
Thomas Ulrich followed a general engineering program at
Ecole Centrale Paris leading to the degree Diplôme
d'ingénieur. The last year of this program was done abroad
at the School of Industrial Engineering of Barcelona
(ETSEIB). He then worked in the French geological survey
company (BRGM) in Orleans (France) for 5 years, in the
risk division, in a working unit focused on the seismic
hazard and risk evaluation. There he tackled a broad range
of topics from the vulerability assessment of buildings to
the development of new methods for assessing and
quantifying the seismic hazard. In the beginning of 2015,
he decided to start a PhD at LMU Munich focused on
modeling numerically large earthquakes with SeisSol. So
far, he has been interested in the influence of complex
fault geometry on the rupture process, and he has been
working on modeling recent large tsunamigenic earthquakes.
