DescriptionKnowledge of parallel and distributed computing is
important for students needing to address big data
problems for jobs in either industry or academia;
however, many college campuses do not offer courses in
these areas due to curriculum limitations, insufficient
faculty expertise, and instructional computing
resources. Massively Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide
an opportunity to scale learning environments and help
institutions advanced curriculum. In this paper, we
discuss a Cloud Computing course offered at Indiana
University and use it as a model for improving
curriculum at institutions, which otherwise wouldn’t be
exposed to parallel and distributed computing.
